January 22, 2003 - High Court Declines Pic Suit

NEW ORLEANS --- The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday said it won't consider a lawsuit blaming violent movies and other entertainment for a school shooting in Kentucky in 1997.

The $33 million lawsuit was brought against Hollywood by families of the three girls killed in the 1997 shooting. Five students were also wounded.

Families said 14-year-old Michael Carneal shot the girls as a result of watching violent entertainment.

Last year, a federal appeals court threw out the lawsuit, saying entertainment products are protected by the First Amendment.

In all matters involving wrongful death it is essential that measures be taken promptly to preserve evidence, investigate the accident in question, and to file a lawsuit prior to the deadline imposed by the statute of limitations. If a loved one has been a victim of wrongful death, contact us now, at (215) 822-1888 or CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT A SIMPLE CASE FORM. The initial consultation is free of charge, and if we agree to accept your case, we will work on a contingent fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if there is a monetary award or recovery of funds. Don’t delay! You may have a valid claim and be entitled to compensation for your injuries, but a lawsuit must be filed before the statute of limitations expires.
